Pendle Summit
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Pendle from Roughlee
Today, I am joining Lin and Chris from Rotherham on a walk up Pendle from Barley. They are taking a short holiday based in Hurst Green near Clitheroe and wanted to have a look at Lancashire's Finest Fell. The other walkers are Lorraine and Paul.
Barley
It's a sunny day in Barley and there is a meeting of the local "we have more dogs than you" club.
Lower Ogden Reservoir
Dennis
We passed a "Reservoir Spotter". This group of enthusiasts disperse at weekends and "bag" as many reservoirs as they can. On certain nominated Saturdays, they are encouraged to dress as cartoon characters.
Upper Ogden Reservoir
After a dry spell, the level is well down.
Ogden Clough |
Boar Clough |
The chosen route is along Ogden Clough and then up the path above Boar Clough, past the tree and up the gentle gradient towards the summit.
Chris and Lorraine
On the way to Pendle summit, Lorraine gives Chris a gentle prod and encourages him to speed up.
Pendle Plateau
All the hard work done and a short stroll to the top of Pendle Hill.
Pendle Summit
Lin summits Pendle for the first time, Izzy is on familiar territory and is less excited.

We took lunch behind the wall on the summit; a strong southerly wind has developed and the skies have clouded over.

To Salt Pie Farm
We walked across Downham Road and into the field for the path to Windy Harbour Farm and hence Salt Pie Farm.
The Flock
Paul has attracted the attention of a flock of sheep, further away is the building work at the homes badly damaged by fire, last August.

The Pendle Inn
A round of drinks at the Pendle Inn to complete matters.

Time taken: Longer than usual over about 6 miles.
Route: Barley, Ogden Reservoirs, Boar Clough, Pendle Summit, The Steps, fields to Salt Pie Farm, Lower Black Moss Reservoir, Barley.
Weather: Sunny start, cooler on top as the wind increased and cloudy to finish off.
Greetings: Saturday and sunshine always brings out the walkers, runners and cyclists in this area. Seekers of solitude will need to look elsewhere.
Refreshments: The Pendle Inn is a busy pub and welcomes walkers and dogs. Real Ales include "Blond Witch", "Pendle Witch" and "Black Cat" from Moorhouse's Brewery, Burnley.
Gnight!
