Pendle Hill from Roughlee
When Saturday comes, quite often the maps are out and the road miles clocked up. But here's a low cost option and an opportunity to accompany a visitor from Kent.
Barley |
Oyster Catcher |
I parked in Barley and set off at 09:00hrs. Alastair, from Tunbridge Wells will meet me up at the roadside; an Oyster Catcher calls out from the lofty perch of the Lower Black Moss Reservoir dam.

Farmlife |
I met Alastair at the roadside. He had driven up from Kent and his main purpose of the day was to watch Spurs at Wigan, but being a fellwalker he wanted to incorporate a climb of Lancashire's finest fell.

Today turned out to be chosen date for the 19th Pendle Witch Way walk. Walkers could choose either the 12 mile or 25 mile routes.
Witch Way Walkers |
Boar Clough |
We followed the path down Boar Clough to Ogden Clough, passing scores of the event walkers. Some of the ones on the shorter route looked a little out of place; whereas those striding purposefully on the longer route were easy to spot.
Draining Away
The Upper Reservoir in Ogden Clough is rapidly draining away. Hosepipe bans or maintenance?
Lower Ogden Reservoir
We had tea in The Cabin and then Alastair departed for the JJB Stadium.
