Pendle Hill

Pendle Hill

This photo was taken on Christmas Eve from the fields behind our house. The 24th was a really great day, but I was kept close to home and I can offer two other local photos from the day before Christmas.

Taken from the New-In-Pendle bridge at the foot of Barden Lane.

Widdop Moor further away. The chimney on the right belongs to Queen Street Mill, the only surviving steam-powered weaving mill in the world and it's right on our doorstep!

Pendle Hill

On the way in, Christmas Day. A party of three of us have found the time and enthusiasm to climb Pendle Hill and work up an appetite for the annual food binge.

Start Point

Morning Sunshine

It's been a long time since I climbed Pendle Hill in the morning.

Black Moss

Black Moss Reservoirs

Spot the Reservoirs! It's about as chilly as it looks, not too windy on the way up, but a stiff breeze on top.

Pendle Walkers

Summiteers

Peter Ratcliffe, Simon Baldwin and me. Si's mum has a view of Pendle Hill from her lounge window and Simon promised a phone call when we got to the top, so Dorothy could point her binoculars at us.

This one's for Bowland Bob from Longridge, frequent commenteer on this site and keen walker on Pendle Hill and in the Trough of Bowland. Merry Christmas Bob & Glenys.

We left Pendle Hill in good spirits and after Christmas Lunch, Peter and I took young nephew Matthew on to the back fields for a spot of sledging, something quite new to the four year-old.

Wow!!

Walkers: P&R Ratcliffe and Simon Baldwin

Time taken: 1hr and 14 minutes over about 2.5 miles.

Route: Shortest route from the road, up the steps and down the track.

Weather and conditions: Sunny Intervals and Cold. Clouded over an hour later and Pendle Hill was lost in the mist.

Greetings Count: Quite a few other walkers. Boxing Day is the big day for local hillwalking.

Richard's Refreshment Review: Nothing to report today. Other than the generous helpings from Karen's Kitchen.
