Men At Work?
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Pendle Hill
On the way to Barley, I stopped to take a photo of my favourite local fell. Today, I'm meeting a friend in Barley for a walk up the Hill.
My companion is the author of a "new" map of the Lake District; do you know who the Mystery Guest is, yet?
Black Moss Reservoirs
Start time today was just after 2pm, the Land Rover was left in Barley and I drove up to the roadside for the beginning of the walk.
Peter Burgess on top of Pendle Hill
Peter has been in the Lake District and is on his way home to London, but couldn't resist the offer of a walk up the fell which introduced him to fellwalking, from his early home in Clitheroe.
Me on top of Pendle
No, it's not Photoshop, I really did get up there!
Spence Moor
The route to Boar Clough aims for Spence Moor, where there is just a hint of brightness through the harmless afternoon clouds.
Boar Clough |
Peter in Boar Clough |
Peter is a geographer, indeed a Fellow of Something Geographical, I can't quite remember the name, but it's worth being in it. He is very interested in the circular pool, caused by the erosion of the sides by loose stones.
Path Repairs
At first, we thought it was the work of naughty students, but the puddly path has been repaired, so boots can stay a little drier and cleaner.
Lower Ogden Reservoir
We finished the walk in Barley.
Walkers: Peter Burgess & Me
Time taken: 1hr 50 mins over a distance of about 4 miles.
Route: Roadside parking, up the steps, along the top, down Boar Clough (in the beck), past both Ogden Reservoirs and finishing in Barley.
Weather and conditions: Overcast and rather breezy on top.
Greetings Count: We passed a few mature walkers on their way down the steps. One lady thought Peter was moving quickly and warned him of a less nimble future. A few runners sped along the top and then we saw a couple more walkers near the Ogden Reservoirs.
Take me back to the start ....
