~Pendle Hill~
29th October 2011
The weatherman said it would rain in the afternoon, so I stayed local today and thought I'd have a wander up the local fell before the poor weather arrived.

Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
Road Sign, Newchurch-in-Pendle
Today's walk started at 10:20 and I parked on the roadside in Newchurch. Blue sky gave room for optimism...
Witches Galore
Boom time for "Witches Galore" with Halloween due any day soon. I had no food with me, so I intended to buy a drink and a biscuit for the walk. However WG doesn't open until 11am, so it's a walk without supplies. Not ideal.
Pendle Hill
My walk took me towards Fell Wood, a spooky place at best, nevermind late October.
Inside the Wood
I didn't hang around in the wood, there was an eerie peace and then I thought there was someone behind me ....
Upper Ogden Reservoir
The cloud level is descending and a few drops of rain are falling.
Ogden Clough
It's raining now and I pass two walkers and bid my first greeting.
Pendle Flags
It was hood up, head down and get on with it.
Pendle Summit
Compulsary summit photo. I'm afraid to say that it is no fun being up here in bad weather. This is the first time in ages that I've been up when it's been raining. I went down the steps and across the fields to Barley.
Pendle from Barley
Barley Car Park
It was hardly raining by the time I reached the main car park. I popped into The Cabin for much needed refreshments.

Last Look at Pendle Hill
Walkers: Just Me
Time taken: 3 hour 24 mins over a distance of about 7 miles.
Route: Newchurch-in-Pendle, Fell Wood, Upper Ogden Reservoir, Ogden Clough, Flags to Pendle Summit, The Steps, Fields down to Barley, Heys Lane and footpath over to Newchurch-in-Pendle
Weather and conditions: Bright, quickly declining to steady rain. Easing off to grey skies. It brightened up in the afternoon! Before heavy rain finally arrived in the evening.
Greetings Count: Two in Ogden Clough, two more on the flags. Then I passed quite a few ascenders on the steps - it's a pity if these were visitors to the area on their first ascent, they won't be in a hurry to come again.
Richard's Refreshment Review: The Cabin, Barley Car Park. It's a good place, they do get overrun a bit at busy times, but the food is good and generally it's service with a smile.
The Church Title Board, Newchurch-In-Pendle
Take me back to the start ....
